Laura, COTA/L
Certified Occupational Therapist

Laura is a New Mexico native and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant who has been practicing since 2016. In addition to working part-time at Functional Playground Therapies, she provides occupational therapy services in schools throughout the community. Laura takes a holistic, relationship-centered approach to therapy, focusing on helping children feel safe, seen, connected, and supported as they develop skills for everyday life.
Laura loves pediatrics because therapy can be playful, creative, and delightfully messy. She particularly enjoys working with younger children and has a special interest in sensory integration and sensory processing. One of her favorite interventions combines heavy-work obstacle courses—climbing, crawling, jumping, pushing, and pulling—with fine-motor activities to support regulation, strength, coordination, and functional skills through play.
Outside of occupational therapy, Laura’s love of movement continues through dance. She travels for dance, performs with a dance team, and regularly takes classes in two of her favorite styles, Bachata and Zouk. One of her favorite reminders is, “Nothing can dim the light which shines from within.”
